Since opening its first colorful clothing and interiors store in Montmartre in 1997, nearly 20 branches of Antoine & Lili have popped up in Paris and other French cities. The winter collection for women and children goes by the name of Babouschka and includes many flowered dresses. Those on the lookout for something different can also find jewelry, toys, coffee tables, plates, cushions, lamps, and Russian dolls.

A.P.C.
The abbreviation stands for Atélier de production et de création and is a French prêt-à-porter label founded in 1987 by Jean Touitou. Its minimalist jeans were available to buy in Tokyo and New York back in the 1990s, and today, A.P.C. has stores in more than 30 countries. Denim is still the brand’s hallmark.

Medecine Douce
Marie Montaud’s label made its breakthrough at the turn of the millennium with the so-called Charleston necklace. Since then, Medecine Douce’s bohemian yet elegant jewelry has been designed at its studio in Paris in collaboration with French artisans. Since 2007, the label’s rings, earrings, bracelets, and necklaces can be bought at its own store on the Rue de Marseille.

Babel
Directly opposite the canal is this 100-square-meter concept store. Everything inside Babel is for sale, offering a mix of clothes, brooches, bags, jewelry, mirrors, antique chairs, retro birdcages, posters, art books and much more. Behind Babel is designer Vanessa Doger, who also sells her own creations in the store.

Skate fans can go wild among the vast quantities of T-shirts, baseball caps, sneakers, and skateboards covering the 154 square meters that opened here in 2011. Brands include Plan B, Nixon, Von Zipper, Dakine, and RVCA. The store is open seven days a week, and every two months it invites artists in to decorate one of the walls.

Du Pain et des Idées
In Paris, you will find bakeries in almost every neighborhood, but the one located at the corner of Rue Marseille and Rue Yves Toudic is a multi-award winner and is written about in the French press. Baker Christophe Vasseur took over the premises in 2002 but has retained the original décor dating from 1889. Behind the counter he bakes sourdough bread, croissants, chaussons aux pommes, and escargots rhum raisins using organic flour and fresh butter.

In 2000, Carl Huguenin and Jérôme Fournel launched what they called “Paris’ first concept store dedicated to the image.” The bookstore, with its orange-red facade, was listed by the Huffington Post last year as one of the world’s 10 best bookstores for art and design. The shelves boast a wide range of carefully selected books and magazines about fashion, photography, graphic design, architecture, graffiti, and modern art.
